In a remarkable feat showcasing their exceptional logistical capabilities, Express Global Logistics (EXG) of India recently completed an ambitious transport operation, moving massive structures to Saudi Arabia as a critical element in the development of a green hydrogen project.
Each of these gigantic modules, vital for the project’s success, weighed as much as 250 tonnes and featured impressive dimensions of 50 meters in length, 12 meters in width, and 18 meters in height. The total weight of the 14 modules transported by EXG amounted to approximately 1,500 freight tonnes.
Utilizing advanced technology, EXG deployed top-tier Scheuerle self-propelled modular transporters (SPMT) from their specialized Megaload fleet. The operation leveraged 48 axle lines, two powerful pack units, and custom spacers to expertly handle these oversized loads.
To facilitate the transport process, eight modules were carefully loaded onto vessels using a complex roll-on roll-off (RoRo) maneuver, which included the use of ramp plates and supports to ensure a secure transfer. Additionally, the remaining six were transported to the jetty by SPMTs and then lifted into position using crawler cranes.
Thanks to meticulous planning and cutting-edge equipment, EXG’s teams navigated numerous logistical challenges with outstanding precision and success. Ensuring vessel stability during the voyage was particularly crucial, achieved through precise ballasting techniques.
Enhancing their global presence, EXG partnered with Italian powerhouse Fagioli in a joint venture named Megaload in early 2023, expanding their expertise in industries such as petrochemicals and construction, focusing on innovative lifting technologies.
